Is The Bible True

Is the Bible Historically True? Did Jesus Really Rise From the Dead?
Many people today ask honest questions about faith: Is the Bible reliable? Did Jesus really exist? Did He truly rise from the dead? These are not small questions. Your entire life, eternity, and relationship with God rest on the answers. I had these questions too.
The good news is this—Christianity isn’t built on blind belief. It stands on real history, real people, real places, and a real Savior who stepped into our world.
In short, Yes—a significant amount of the Bible is historically reliable, especially the parts that can be compared with archaeology and non-Christian historical sources.
The Bible and History: What We Know
The Bible isn’t a random spiritual book written in a vacuum. It is set in real history. And the more archaeologists dig, the more evidence surfaces that supports the people, places, and events in Scripture.
Real People Confirmed by Archaeology
- King David – once thought to be a myth until the Tel Dan inscription was discovered.
- Pontius Pilate – confirmed by an inscription found in Caesarea in 1961.
- Caiaphas the High Priest – his burial ossuary was discovered in Jerusalem.
- Herod the Great – multiple historical records confirm his existence.
Real Places Confirmed
For years skeptics doubted the Bible’s locations. But one by one, they were uncovered:
- Pool of Siloam (John 9) – Was found in 2004 during excavation work for a sewage line.
- Pool of Bethesda (John 5) – A historical archaeological site in Jerusalem’s old city.
- Capernaum
- Nazareth
- Jericho
- Corinth
- Ephesus
Even tiny details once dismissed as “unlikely” turned out to be accurate when excavations were done.
As a side note, I had the privilege of traveling to Greece once. I visited the museum in Athens and found the altar to the “Unknown God”. The apostle Paul referred to this altar and preached the gospel to the people of Athens. Acts 17:22-23. I also traveled to the city of Corinth in Greece and saw the ruins of the city of Corinth and the market square where the Apostle Paul stayed with an influential person. It was in that market place that Paul mended tents to support himself while on missions.
Real Events Acknowledged by Secular Historians
Non-Christian writers like Josephus, Tacitus, and Pliny the Younger confirm:
- Jesus lived
- He was crucified under Pontius Pilate
- His followers claimed He rose from the dead
- Christianity exploded immediately in Jerusalem
This is remarkable because they had no reason to support Christianity.
Was Jesus a Real Historical Person?
Absolutely. Jesus is real indeed.
Even atheistic historians agree that Jesus was:
- A Jewish teacher
- A miracle worker or someone perceived as performing extraordinary deeds
- Crucified under Pilate
- Buried
- Followed by disciples who believed He rose again
No serious historian in the world claims Jesus never existed.
The Empty Tomb: Why It Matters
Christianity is unique because it can be tested historically.
If Jesus’ body were still in the tomb, the early disciples would have been laughed out of Jerusalem. Christianity would have died instantly.
The early disciples would not have endured all the persecution, beheading, being burnt alive, and killed simply for a “lie”.

But instead:
- The Jewish religious leaders admitted the tomb was empty, and blamed the disciples for “stealing the body.”
- The tomb was publicly accessible. Anyone could have checked.
- The tomb belonged to Joseph of Arimathea, a known Jewish leader—not a fictional name.
An empty tomb in the same city where He was killed is powerful evidence.
Eyewitness Accounts You Can Trust
We don’t believe in the resurrection because of a single rumour. The Bible records multiple eyewitness accounts:
- Mary Magdalene
- The disciples
- Two men on the road to Emmaus
- James, the brother of Jesus
- Over 500 people at one time (1 Corinthians 15:3–8)
And that statement from Paul is not a late legend. It’s one of the earliest Christian creeds, dated within 5–7 years of the resurrection.
If it was false, people could easily check the witnesses, because many of them were still alive. They could simply ask one of them. And if it were a lie, the entire faith of followers would have crumbled in no time and Christianity would not exist. But here we are 2025 years later, and some many billions have embraced the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Transformation of the Disciples
Something dramatic changed these men from the inside out.
Before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ:
- They ran away
- They hid
- Peter denied Jesus three times
After the resurrection:
- They preached boldly in Jerusalem
- They faced prison, beatings, brutality, and death
- They refused to deny what they had seen
People may die for what they believe is true, but no one dies for what they know is a lie.
If they had stolen the body, they wouldn’t willingly suffer and die for it.
Their courage points to one conclusion:
They truly saw Jesus alive.
So, Is the Bible Historically True?
When you line up:
- Archaeology
- Non-Christian historical references
- Eyewitness accounts
- Early writings
- Prophecies fulfilled
- The impact of Jesus’ resurrection
The evidence is not fragile. It is strong, consistent, and compelling. The Bible isn’t just true spiritually. It is true historically.
And if the resurrection happened—and the evidence strongly points to it—then Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be:
The Son of God, the Only Savior, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
What Does This Mean for You Today?
If Jesus really rose from the dead, then:
- Your sins can be forgiven
- Your past can be washed clean
- You can have a new life
- You can know God personally
- You can be born again
- You can have eternal life
The resurrection isn’t just a historical event. It is God reaching out to you with love.
If you’re reading this and sense a tug in your heart, that is the Holy Spirit. God is calling you to turn to Him.
You can come as you are.
You don’t need to fix yourself first.
You simply need to surrender your heart to Jesus.
Here is a simple prayer to guide you:
“Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. Today I turn away from my old life and I put my faith in You. Please forgive me, wash me clean, and make me new. Come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From today, I choose to follow You. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
If you prayed this sincerely, God has heard you.
You can now begin a brand-new journey of knowing Him, reading His Word, and growing in faith.
