“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1, ESV)
Hebrews 11:6 also says, it is impossible to please God without faith. So then, faith is critical in approaching God and experiencing all that God has got to offer.
If you have read the gospels, you will have noticed how many times Jesus mentions, “Your faith has made you well”. Faith and belief in God’s Word is very important in our walk with God. At the root of it all, every struggle in life would somehow lead to unbelief in God’s Word. I don’t mean sicknesses. But struggles, such as addictions, or our daily war with the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. When the bible says, the enemy satan roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, it is talking about the enemy seeking someone whom he can convince to stop believing in God.
Have you noticed that your struggle with faith is only when it comes to believing in God and God’s Word? Consider these for a moment:
What Faith Looks Like in Everyday Life
Faith is not some mysterious religious word. Every single day, without even realizing it, we live by faith.
- When you visit a doctor, you don’t know him personally, you don’t even understand the complicated names of the medicines he prescribes, and yet you swallow those pills in faith that they will work.
- When you withdraw money from an ATM, you do it in faith that the unseen system behind the machine will honor your request and give you the right amount.
- When you board a plane, you don’t see the pilot, you don’t know his skills or experience, yet you sit comfortably, trusting he’ll get you to your destination.
- When you drive your car, you don’t fully understand how the engine works or how fuel ignites power — you just turn the key and trust the vehicle will move.
- When you turn on a light switch, you rarely think about electricity or wiring, but you expect the bulb to glow.
These are all acts of faith. We trust in people, systems, and processes we can’t see or don’t fully understand.
Why Then Do We Struggle with Faith in God?
If we can trust imperfect people, unseen systems, and fragile machinery, why do we hesitate to trust the living God who created us, sustains us, and has never failed?
The answer is simple yet sobering: sin.
Since the fall of Adam and Eve, humanity has carried a rebellious nature. We would rather trust man-made systems than the Creator of the universe. We would rather rebel against God and be our own god than humbly bow to Him.
Faith in God isn’t hard because God is untrustworthy — it’s hard because our sinful hearts resist Him.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” (Jeremiah 17:9)
What True Faith Is
Faith is not blind. Faith is trusting God because He has proven Himself faithful. From Genesis to Revelation, His Word never fails. Every prophecy, every promise, every testimony stands as evidence that He keeps His Word.
When Jesus walked the earth, He healed the sick, raised the dead, calmed the storm, and ultimately rose from the grave. If we can trust a doctor with our bodies, how much more should we trust the Great Physician with our souls?
1 Cor 15:14-19 – And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
A Call to Repent and Believe
So, what is faith? It is simply taking God at His Word and acting upon it. Faith is believing that His promises are true, even when your eyes cannot see.
Friend, maybe you’ve struggled with doubts, maybe you’ve resisted surrendering fully to Him. But today, hear this: God’s words never fail. His call to repent is not to burden you but to free you. His Son, Jesus, bore your sins on the cross so you could be forgiven and reconciled to Him.
Don’t waste your life putting faith in everything else while ignoring the only One truly worthy of it. Repent, believe, and turn back to God. Place your trust in Him today — and you will find peace, joy, and life everlasting.
